Regulatory Compliance for Infrastructure & Environment Projects
Compliance of applicable laws and regulations is paramount to managing construction projects, and there are many different agencies with laws and regulations that apply to different construction projects under different circumstances. Managing these agencies, with their concerns and requirements, can sometimes take up the better part of a project management firm’s responsibilities.
Throughout the years, King Industries Corporation (KIC) has built and maintained a strong rapport with many outside partners including CID, FEMA, NMDHSEM, USACE, SHPPO, EPA, etc. These agencies all have laws and regulations that impact the success of projects. KIC’s professional staff has extensive knowledge of the laws and regulations that apply to engineering and construction projects of many various types. Our familiarity with these agencies and their processes, combined with our financial offerings and expertise, clearly illustrate a degree of project management “specialization” that is difficult to find with contractors who have simply added some project management services over time.
In disaster planning and recovery, the KIC team works closely with local communities as well as state and federal programs, and has been instrumental in developing and coordinating emergency declaration response efforts for a long list of clients. We have extensive experience with major infrastructure improvements as well as with managing emergency recovery efforts. KIC understands both the technical and administrative sides of projects as well as project funding. We have vast experience coordinating with outside agencies and answering technical questions. Our staff (both in the office and in the field) works closely together to minimize any and all change orders while maintaining a positive schedule and adherence to the scope of work. The KIC team is built strategically around all aspects of construction management services, project management and program management, and always possesses an intimate understanding of the projects under its control.
KIC takes great satisfaction that all of our past projects have met all critical permitting requirements, as well as addressed and resolved major cost reimbursement, environmental and historical concerns that are inherent in a wide variety of project types, recovery-related or not. KIC utilizes a construction management checklist along with processes and procedures that ensure all the applicable laws and regulations on a given project have been reviewed, and applicable items are addressed at the appropriate time.
HEALTH, SAFETY & ENVIRONMENT
(HSE) COMPLIANCE
KIC’s Safety Program is designed for “boots on the ground” in the field, for project managers, construction managers, inspectors and for sub-contractors. Our program begins with in-office training for project/construction managers and regulatory inspectors, then implemented in the field by our inspectors and contractors themselves, utilizing all appropriate training and documentation for compliance and risk mitigation. KIC boasts a zero percent incident rate since its inception in 2012… meaning no incidents, and no lost time.
While KIC’s health and safety program helps to ensure quality control and performance efficiency, even the very best HSE programs are worth little if they are not carried out routinely by our employees and contractors as second nature, and documented accordingly. Health and safety are not afterthoughts for KIC; rather, they form the basis of all of our operational protocols, and are integrated into our corporate culture from the moment an employee or contractor is hired on. Our Injury & Illness Prevention Program is included alongside our Employee Handbook during new hire orientation, and is considered required reading and signed documentation of policy acceptance for all new employees and contractors.
KIC has adopted the “path to perfect safety” – challenge beliefs, change behaviors and check continuously. For KIC, CFR/OSHA standards COMPLIANCE is only the beginning. Our company embraces a continuous, PROACTIVE identification of potential weak spots in our HSE “armor”, remedying those areas as soon as they are noticed to maintain the company’s RESILIENCE against detrimental systems, processes and practices representing unforeseen dangers. In fact, our HSE philosophy and practice are a reflection of the diligence, attention and quality performance our clients’ projects receive when KIC is in charge.
Our HSE-dedicated culture includes:
Comprehensive injury and illness prevention training for each new employee;
Monthly safety trainings for project managers and construction managers/inspection team;
Active measuring and management of corporate and individual HSE performance;
Pre-job safety planning for new projects;
OSHA compliance across all platforms.
KIC’s safety performance levels, since inception, are equivalent to those of the best performing businesses and their world-class safety programs. That’s because King Industries’ culture of care demands it. We believe all incidents are preventable when we have the proper attitudes, processes and systems in place before anything else.
